When There's a Need
03:38
|
|||
I got my sights set on setting sight blurry
Got a cold PBR in my palm
It's getting later, but I ain't got a hurry
I know my friends when they stay, they stay long
And though I get moving and lonesome
And when I know I can't tell where I'll be
They'll be right back there where I left them
They'll be right there when there's a need
We crawl over with fresh cases of cardboard
Unless we got some brews left from before
Not each lip catches sips but the ground does
Each drip builds a stain on the floor
We toss rounds 'round til we got none of our own left
And before we can beg once or plead
There's a friend's fist filled with a cold one
They'll be right there when there's a need
We get busy gettin' well and acquainted
We make up for the time that passed by
And we don't get too moved to frustration
Well, we know these good times do run dry
The night's still yet we ain't just sit still yet
But we're getting quite closer to sleep
There's a couch or a fence to hop over
They'll be right there when there's a need

Darling, I'm leaving for drinking
And don't you take it that hard
I'll be out late but don't get to thinking
That I'll be trouble 'round roaming the dark
I know sometimes it's too hard to handle
Us men being boys every night
And who do we think that we're kidding?
And come on, we can't think it's right
But if I do it, then I do it for a reason
And believe me, it's something I must
What's the one thing that binds us together?
That's right, darling, that one thing is trust
So darling, I'm leaving for drinking
And I won't be back until late
And if this drinking is trying your patience
Darling, I'll make it worth all your wait
Darling, I'm leaving for drinking
And if my leave's feeling too long
Then remember this song that I'm singing
And it'll pass as you're singing along
Darling, I'm leaving for drinking
And don't you take it that hard
I'll be out late but don't get to thinking
That I'll be trouble 'round roaming the dark (til faaaade)

Josh, Ryan, and Me
02:35
|
|||
It started once and it hardly stopped
In the summer of '010
Like a powow of old spirits
Chasing clouds as they'd spill in
And there they'd sit in haggard rocking chairs
And they'd nod as the door creaked
And I'd smile over some Bayside
And it was Josh, Ryan, and me
The Fish felt less fantastic
And our young bones moved to still
So we'd clink and clank cold bottles
Oh, the stories we would tell
And though we could just make out the dawn wake
And hear the workweek breathe
It didn't matter much those nights
For Josh, Ryan, and me
And so we burnished beers by midnight
And pretended to be free
And whether we were or not was an afterthought
For Josh, Ryan, and me
When we'd venture from our confines
The lustre'd never drift
It just followed us to some other couch
Another late-night weeknight shift
And other folks would join with King cans
Like Brando, Ian, and Cactus Keith
And we all fit like a glove
Them and Josh, Ryan, and me
There were hearts we left behind
And others that left us
But we basked in all our glory
And swept the ugly rest with dust
And now they got their own little hovel
And it's further down the street
But I got a bike with wheels and a backpack full
For Josh, Ryan, and me
So we'll burnish beers by midnight
And pretend to be free
And whether we are or not will be an afterthought
For Josh, Ryan, and me

Last Night's Beer
03:51
|
|||
I fell out of bed this morning
Like I've many times before
Start wondering what the time is
While my body shuffles forward
I plop at my kitchen table
Break in my stale routine
Watch the trees shake and unravel
And prepare a mug of tea
And I trace a path of bottles
From the beginning to the end
Catch echoes of some laughter
But they're swept up in the wind
I make face with my awakening
Gather one full sober thought
Then carry on in silence
Pour hot water from the pot
As kids we must forgive our future selves
As we oft forget the night before
Take one cold hard searching look into the mirror
As last night's beer begins to pour
And each night I swear it's worth it
And I still believe it is
To compromise next mornings
With last nights' destructive bliss
And when I can't shake off the vapours
The huddled fog of beers and haze
I say it won't ever paralyse us
I know there's better days
There's a text sent from the neighbours
It's nearing 8PM
Grab what's left of my warm 2-4
And throw it in the fridge
I'll do it all again
As kids we must forgive our future selves
As we oft forget the night before
Take one cold hard searching look into the mirror
As last night's beer begins to pour
I know there's better days

Yesterday's Wine
03:41
|
|||
Miracles appear
In the strangest of places
Fancy meeting you here
The last time I saw you
Was just out of Houston
Sit down let me buy you a beer
Your presence is welcome
With me and my friend here
This is a hangout of mine
We come here quite often
And listen to music
Partaking of yesterday's wine
Yesterday's wine
I'm yesterday's wine
Aging with time
Like yesterday's wine
Yesterday's wine
We're yesterday's wine
Aging with time
Like yesterday's wine
You give the appearance
Of one widely travelled
I'll bet you've seen
Things in your time
So sit down beside me
And tell me your story
If you think
You'll like yesterday's wine
Yesterday's wine
We're yesterday's wine
Aging with time
Like yesterday's wine
Yesterday's wine
We're yesterday's wine
Aging with time
Like yesterday's wine
